Fill the refrigerator once a week with too much food or buy as many times as needed and under the house? It's time to take a look at our lifestyle habits, and see if they fit our needs and beliefs

"In our family, there is a constant debate between those who live in private homes in the suburb and those who live in the center of the city. What's better  – living in a large house with a garden, paying expensive property taxes and spending every day in traffic or living in the city center, in a small apartment, getting around on public transportation and enjoying a good relationship with the neighbors? For example, I raise three children in the city center who live in one room. It fits my perception of life and the closeness I'm looking for to urban and educational centers,” says architect Roni Avitzur of Studio XS.

Adds architect Ofer Rosman: “Another important feature of the 'micro-living' is the community. Concepts like collaboration and the power of the group are part of everyday life. When living according to the method, a new housing culture is formed and public life is conducted together. Everyone has their own apartment, but shared spaces designed to meet needs such as play, laundry, workstations or gardening are an extension of the private apartments, which no longer function as separate and autonomous units. The shared spaces provide the apartments with added value and increase the possibilities for welfare that the residents experience."

Dwellings in diverse areas have become a sought-after commodity among a population that does not need the popular four- or five-room apartments in Israel. "Over the years, a standard profile has been established in Israel for four- or five-room apartments as a response to an average family, but there is an audience that needs less large apartments," explains Rossman. He gives an example – “If you're a young couple without children, a single-parent family, students, or a couple whose children have grown up and left home, it's probably hard for you to find an urban housing solution that fits you like a glove.”
